Charles (Jay) McClure

 

September 28, 1936 - May 25, 2020 

Jay McClure, 83, of Ft. Mohave, Ariz, passed away at his home on May 25, 2020. He fought a long hard battle with leukemia.

Jay was born and raised in Hot Springs and joined the Air Force in 1956. After basic training, he married JoAnn Johnstone on July 6, 1956. They were married 6 weeks shy of 64 years.

Jay served 12 1/2 years in the Air Force and after getting out moved to Denver and worked as an aircraft mechanic and a heavy equipment mechanic. They moved to Ogden, Utah in 1983 and he went to work at Hill AFB as a shop foreman. While there he joined the Air Force Reserves and finished his 20 years to retire from the Air Force. After he retired from Hill AFB, they moved to Grand Junction, Colo. and spent the next 15 years traveling in their motorhome. In 2004, they moved back to Hot Springs until 2011 when they moved to Arizona to get away from the winters.

Jay is survived by his wife, JoAnn; children, Marty (Lee) of Berthoud, Colo.; Vicki (Mike) Noel, Leadville, Colo.; and Jeff (Debbie), Garland Texas. 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph McClure; his mother, Willa, as well as 5 brothers, 2 sisters, 4 sisters-in-law and 2 brothers-in-law.

A memorial service is planned for late August, early September at the Black Hills National Cemetary in Sturgis, S.D.
