Rocky L Jensen

August 2, 1952 - June 12, 2020

Rocky L Jensen, “THE ROCK”, was born August 2, 1952, in Great Falls, Mont. to Gibby and Jean Gilbert, joining sister Sidney Jean. In 1965, he moved with his mom, step dad, and sister to Salinas Cali. While in California, he graduated from North Salinas High School in 1971. Following graduation, Rocky went to work for Bud Antle Produce Farms.

Rocky was born into a horse family. Rock’s greatest love was horses. Anybody who knew Rock knew what a hand he was with horses. He was a member of the “Middlefield-Gabilon” gang.

Rocky moved to South Dakota with his sister and new brother-in-law Ed, following the death of their mother. He met and married Deb and to this union four children were born, Christine; Rocky B (Brooke); Brianne; and Katy Lynn (Jeremy).

Rock was a man of many talents. From working on the railroad, tending bar and singing a little. He could be found many Friday and Saturday nights making drinks and singing with the band at the Stockman’s Bar in Buffalo Gap, S.D. “Old Hippie” and “Johnny B Goode” were signature songs of “The Rock”.  And of course, being a cowboy.

Some of Rock’s greatest memories come from his time working on the Streeter Ranch in Buffalo Gap and the Tom Lander’s Ranch in Hot Springs. Rock would tell you the greatest job he ever had was being a grampa. He was the very proud grampa of Owen, Olivia, Lola, William and Hannah.

Rock passed away at his home in Rapid City, S.D. on June 12, 2020.

His dad, Gibby; mom, Jean; step-dad, Arnold; and brother, In –law, Ed preceded him in death.

His children, Christine; Rocky B (Brooke); Brianne; and Katy Lynn (Jeremy); survive him, as well as sister, Sid; niece, Jeanie; nephew, Shawn (Brit); great nephews, Rhett, Riggin, Jackson; great nieces, Montana, Sid Grace, Joey, and Hadley; great great nephew, Lathan; and special friend of many many years, Mike Borland.

Per “The Rock’s” wishes, no services will be held.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Hot Springs, S.D.
