EDGEMONT – This past Labor Day weekend, the 3rd Annual Logan VanEaton Memorial Rodeo was held at the Fall River County Fairgrounds in Edgemont. The event is held in memory of Logan, who lost his life in an accident at a local branding when he was 11 years old in 2016.

“We started the annual roping and ranch rodeo to keep Logan’s memory alive,” said Jessica VanEaton, Logan’s mother. “He loved to rope and ride and we found this type of event fitting to honor him.”

Proceeds from the event are used to fund a scholarship each year that is awarded to an Edgemont High School graduating senior. Additionally, some funds will also be used to build a new crow’s nest and concession stand at the County Fairgrounds in Edgemont in memory of Logan. The estimated cost of the project is anticipated to be $30,000.

“Prior to this year’s event, $22,000 had been raised, and we’re hoping to meet our goal after this year’s event,” said VanEaton.

Results for the competition at the 3rd Annual Logan Van Eaton Memorial included:

Stray Gather – 1) Nolan Brott & Rusty Martin; 2) Nolan Brott & TJ Hodge; 3) Dakota Forkner & Bryce Sturman,; 4) Dakota Forkner & Blake Travnicekty.

Ranch Rodeo – 1) Bootheel 7 Ranch; 2) Broken Arrow Cross H Ranch; 3) WH Fencing, LLC.

The Team Roping event scheduled for Friday was not held due to arena conditions following heavy rain that fell earlier in the day.

The VanEaton family expressed that this event would not be successful without the help of the Fall River County Fair Board volunteers, community volunteers and families, spectators, and the amazing participants.

“We would like to give them all a huge thank you,” says Jessica. “The support we’ve received from everyone has helped us more than they’ll ever know. We’ll see you next Labor Day weekend.”
